Wellness Treatments And Alternative Remedies

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

It’s hard to understand the wellness industry, and a lot of people don’t give it much validity. It has had an image of something that only the strange hippies living in stranger communes in the forest would ever try. Lately, though, many people in the mainstream market have started to see these treatments as a real way to improve mental and physical health as well as emotional well-being.

There are a number of different products on the market that target different people and different problems. There are a few companies and products, like the D Gary Young Living Essentials that have come to the forefront of the industry and is the object of a lot of discussion – both good and bad.

Gary Young is the founder of a large company and proponent of essential oils as alternative treatment. His company started distilling these oils from lavender and other essential herbs and then suggests their use to improve various conditions.

These are products that the company claims can soothe headaches and help improve other complex situations. There are different D Gary Young Living Essentials for different problems, and some of the products can be used as dietary supplements while others are simply rubbed into the skin.

Of course, not everyone accepts this approach and they haven’t tried the products Gary Young recommends. The medical community, for example, is always quick to point out the lack of evidence to support the company’s various claims. On the other hand, there are many people who dislike the way the healthcare system is going, and are looking for different ways to get healthy.

These treatments and alternative medicines aren’t for everyone, though. The good news is that you don’t have to be a hippie living in that backwoods commune in order to try something different. In recent years, these products have actually hit the mainstream and a lot of people are taking a new interest. With a little research, they are learning that there are some potential benefits to these products.

In the end, one of the most difficult hurdles for these products like Gary Young’s essential oils to overcome is the concept of “wellness.” Health benefits are lot easier to measure than wellness benefits, so products that are mainly targeting this area are going to have a difficult time getting other to understand potential benefits.

That doesn’t mean that you should just ignore the concept of wellness. We live in a world that is extremely busy and hectic, and it can really weigh us down. If you really want to try something different, these alternative remedies may be something worth looking into.

D Gary Young Living essentials or wellness oils from other companies are a wonderful way to live a healthier life. Many products from Gary Young are known for being high in quality and are good products to start with.

Do Fad Diets Work?

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

A fad diet is a trendy diet plan that promises to help you lose weight usually in a comparatively short time. A fad diet frequently attracts a lot of media coverage, which then attracts a large number of overweight people to try it in order to get back in shape. Fad diets are frequently quickly discredited, but they keep raising their head from time to time.

The grapefruit diet was or is an example of a fad diet. People wanted to believe that you could lose weight solely by eating. The food in this instance was grapefruits, but there is also a cabbage diet. The problem with these fad diets is that their slimming effect is only short-term, because you cannot eat only cabbage or grapefruit for the rest of your life, so the weight comes back as soon as you go back to normal.

‘If you always do what you always done, you will always get what you always got’ is a true axiom. But what is worse is that most of these diets can be harmful to your health.

However, do not think that fad diets are a new trend. Fad diets or fad treatments have an ancient history going back to fake witch doctors, medicine men and quack doctors who doubled as barbers! Fad practitioners have a long and disreputable history but they are still alive and doing very well, thank you very much, today.

These days, medicine is too tightly regulated for them, so they have turned their attention to gullible, desperate dieters. Most of those that take up a fad diet are overweight teens longing to look like their favourite film idol.

Fad diets usually concentrate on reducing or completely eliminating carbohydrates. It is the low intake of carbohydrates that brings about the fast loss of weight. In fact, this rapid loss is due to the quick loss of water that these low-carb diets induce. Much of the fat might still be there, so that when you stop the diet, your body regains its normal amount of water and the lost weight is put back on just as fast as it was lost.

In the normal course of events, carbohydrates are the basis of energy for work and exercise, but with these fad diets, the carbs are no longer there, so the body starts to break down its stockpile of fat. This may seem beneficial but it is not necessarily so. The ketones resulting from the breakdown of fat are excreted via urine and often increased volumes of urine, which can cause dehydration. People with certain medical conditions have to be very cautious too; diabetics, for instance.

Fad diets are popular, but they can be very damaging to your body and when they do not work in the long-term, it can be very depressing leading to comfort eating. This is why many people begin a fad diet, lose weight and are radiant for a month or two, but then slip back when they are getting near to their ideal weight. They go back to their old ways and the weight starts to return. They become depressed, convinced that they will never be able to lose weight; they comfort eat some more, maybe giving up any hope of regaining a normal weight permanently.

Food: Five Tips For Keeping Food

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

There can not be many people who do not like food, but the human race, being what it is, I suppose there are a few. For the rest of us, food is a source of daily pleasure and, like drink, it is often used to mark a celebration. not only that, but different foodstuffs are used for the different meals or distinct occasions.

Celebratory meals were unquestionably planned around the seasonal foods available, but some foods were transported great distances for the benefit of those who could afford them. For instance, my Dad thought it was a great treat to get an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day 60 years ago. How times have altered, very few children would think an orange a present, special or otherwise, any day of the year nowadays.

Nonetheless, the storage of food is still a daily concern and so, I have listed a few top tips on storing food hereunder, so that you will get the best from what you have bought or grown long afterward.

The Smells Of Summer: the scent of fresh garden herbs are one of the pleasures of Summer. You can conserve many of these herbs in the following way. Take a suitably sized glass bottle and cram your favourite herb into it until you can get not get even one more leaf in. Then fill it to the brim with your favourite oil olive oil (salad oil, not cooking oil). Leave it in the strong sunlight for two days if you are using basil or two weeks for tarragon. Allow the water to part from the oil and decant the oil off into another bottle. Just one or two drops of this oil on a salad or spaghetti will bring back Summer memories.

Bin Ends: sometimes, after a party for example, you may wake up to several small amounts of wine in different bottles. Of course, you can pour like wines into each other. When you are done, pour a teaspoon of olive oil into each bottle. This will create an air proof layer over the wine thereby preserving the wine for another week or two to go together with your favourite dinners – in the cooking process naturally.

Storing Garlic: cloves of peeled garlic will keep for months if you stuff them into a screw-topped jar and cover them with olive oil. As you use the garlic, top up with more olive oil. The oil will absorb some of the flavour of the garlic and make a fabulous (basis for a) salad dressing. If you have used tinned garlic, the rest can be preserved in the same way, but you should rinse and dry them first.

Saving Tomato Paste: if you suspect that you will not be able to use up the left over half a tin or tube of tomato paste soon, you can put it into the ice cube tray and freeze it into blocks until you are ready to use it.

Parsley Crumble: keep bunches of parsley in the deep freeze. Then, when you need it, you can just crumple the head of the bunch in your hand directly over the pan or plate where you require it and put it back in the freezer. The stalks can be used in the stock pot. in fact, this technique works for all herbs.

Cooking: Five Tips On Cooking Food

Monday, April 26th, 2010

There can not be many individuals who do not like their food, but the human race, being what it is, I expect that there are a few of them. However, for the remainder of us, cuisine is a font of daily enjoyment and, like drink, it is frequently used to denote a celebration. not only that, but various foodstuffs are used for the various meals or distinct celebrations.

Commemorative meals were undoubtedly planned around the seasonal foods available, but a number of foodstuffs were ferried enormous distances for the benefit of those who could pay for them. For instance, my father deemed it a great treat to get an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day 60 years back. How the times have changed! Very few kids would deem an orange a present, special or otherwise, any day of the year in our time.

Yet, the preservation of foodstuff is still a daily affair and subsequently, I have listed a few top guidelines on preserving food below, so that you will get the best from that which you have purchased or grown in your garden even a long while afterward.

Chicken Stuffed With Spoons: a great way of preparing chicken to be eaten at a cold buffet or in sandwiches, is to put as many spoons as possible into the cavity of the chicken (not silver or plated ones though). Then, place the chicken in a large saucepan or pot and bring the water to the boil slowly. Simmer for 10 minutes, cover and leave until the water is room temperature. The spoons will retain the heat and cook the chicken from the inside out. it will be one of the most succulent chickens you have ever eaten.

Roasted Crisp And Light: if you like crisp-skinned roasties, it is best to parboil them first, but that is only half the story. so, boil the potatoes for five minutes and drain thoroughly. Put the lid on the pan and shake it about violently. Bang it hard on the chopping block several times. The harder the better. Then put the parboiled potatoes in the baking tray with the meat or fowl to cook as you would normally.

Salad Soup: Do not throw away salad that has been soaked in salad dressing. Whisk it up in a food processor with a can of tomatoes of tinned soup. Add lots of garlic to taste and adjust the thickness to suit your taste. Chill it down and you will have one of the most delicious summer soups ever.

Curdling Cure: if your mayonnaise has curdled there is one sure fire way to bring it back to life. stir in a couple of tablespoons of Hellmann’s mayonnaise and your problem will be over.

Simply Scrumptious Topping: a really, quick, delicious and almost infinitely variable topping for a savory pie can be made in seconds. Choose the flavour you want from the crisp rack; puncture the bag to let our the air and then crush the contents in the gag. it really adds something to a pie. The same trick can be used on the bottom of a potato pie a Texan housewife told me.

How To Stick To Your Resolution To Lose Weight.

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most frequent New Year’s resolution in the West is to lose weight. However, it is also the first New Year’s resolution most apt to be broken! Losing weight is not hard in theory, but practice is oh, so different. This is because it involves lifestyle changes.

Our bodies change as we get older and typically our level of activity diminishes too. Perhaps, we get an office job with a promotion, whereas we used to work ‘in the field’. But people in general, do not adjust their diet to match their change in circumstances. We sit behind our desks or in retirement and think we can still eat and drink like we did twenty years ago. Big mistake!

Luckily, there are dozens of diets on hand to help us reach our weight loss goals. There are the traditional calorie counting diets, as advocated by Weight Watchers; there are the ‘new era’ diets like Atkins, which have us counting carbohydrates and there are no end of fad diets which are frankly not worth wasting time talking about.

The choice of which diet you would like to follow is all yours, of course, but it is well worth examining the main types of diet to see which one will suit you. Then you must determine whether you will require the help and encouragement of a weekly visit to a club or not, or whether you can get that camaraderie from an online club of slimmers, where you talk to fellow slimmers in the club forum online.

It is also worth fixing in your mind, why you want to diet. Is it to look better? Or to feel more at ease in yourself? Or is it for health reasons? Or all three? Have a think about your reasons and let them motivate you. Whenever, you feel like packing it all in, remember your motivation. Get a book and journal your progress, but first write your motivation in bold capitals on the front page or cover. Keep it in front of you and read it out loud to yourself every day.

Consult some of the slimming sites online and work out a few key numbers like the typical weight people are for your height, sex and body type and your BMI or body mass index. Write these figures on the first page of your book too and use them as the eventual goals.

You could produce a graph and plot your weekly weight to see how you are doing. Set realistic goals and targets. You can get loads of free information from the Weight Watchers and Atkins websites or / and go to see your doctor for advice and leaflets.

Aim to lose something like 10-20 pounds in the first month and eight to ten per month after that. Go slowly and aim to go slowly, because then you will hit your targets and you won’t feel like giving up. When you get within five to ten pounds of your target weight, assuming that you have lost a lot of weight, rein back a little and allow yourself a little more freedom. Drop your target to one pound a week, so that you will get a feel for ‘eating normally’.

The dreaded exercise; you have to face it, you will need to do more exercise, but two times thirty minute walks a day is ordinarily enough. You could swim once a week too or get an exercise machine, if you are tied to the house by family.

Weight Loss For Teens

Monday, March 29th, 2010

No one has to read a study or a report to know that there are a lot of overweight or obese people in the USA and the UK. You can blame this on the food being sold or a lack of understanding, but the real bottom line is that you are the one who is putting that stuff into your mouth.

Most people do not think about it, but everyone has a choice whether to eat decent food or not. If you are radically overweight, then you chose to allow yourself to get yourself into that state. No one else, you!

However, there is always a way out and it is never too late. There are thousands of weight loss programs, so you should be able to find one that suits you. I made that sound easy and it should be, but people still have trouble choosing one.

My advice is to read the weight loss advert aloud to yourself or a friend. Does it sound like BS? Then it probably is. Dump it. The bottom line is that you can only lose weight by expending more energy than you consume. Having said that there are a couple of ways of achieving that.

The two basic methods are either counting calories or counting carbohydrates, that is Weight Watchers or Atkins. Start by going to their web sites and reading about their philosophies. Choose the one that suits you and stick to it.

One note that I would like to stress here for teens is that at your time of life your body is going through a revolutionary change. You are metamorphosing from a child to an adult and your body is filling up with hormones, you only had a little of before.

Let the change finish, before you start worrying too much. You were a bug, now you are a chrysalis and soon you will be a butterfly. Just wait and your body time to sort itself out.

There really is not much you can do to stop what your body has to do. Spots mean that you have poisons in you and your body wants to get rid of them. Help it by not putting any more junk into it. Keep your skin clean and make sure that everything that touches your skin is clean too. Hands, hair, pillow cases, et cetera.

Exercise! Now is the time to embed an exercise routine into your way of life. Exercise raises your rate of metabolism which helps you burn calories more quickly. If you can burn calories quickly, then you can allow yourself more treats.

The other point about exercise is that if you do not establish a discipline for exercise when you are young, then you will find it harder when you have your next bodily change in your forties or fifties.

The bottom line is not to worry too much about what you look like now, you are a chrysalis. Help your body out by eating healthily and take up a sport you enjoy and stick with it.

Extreme Weight Loss Diet-How To Lose Weight Faster Than You Thought possible

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

We all know that having a great looking body can be one of the most satisfying things to accomplish in life. Not only do other people look at you and aspire to someday be like you, but your self confidence goes way up. A great way to do this is by going through an extreme weight loss diet, in this article we will show you three incredible tips on how to set one up. After you finish reading this article you will realize how easy it is to shed off all the pounds.

1-Don’t just eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner

If you have only been eating your average of three meals per day, this needs to stop. You should be eating at least five smaller meals per day and never go over five hours without eating. Some of you may be wondering how eating more often helps lose weight. Once you go four hours without eating your metabolism starts to slow down which means you don’t burn as many calories. If you are consuming food at least every three hours you will keep your metabolism spinning fast.

2-Breakfast is your best friend, not your enemy

As I am sure you have already heard before, breakfast is by far the most important meal of the day. If you don’t eat breakfast your metabolism will be slow throughout the day. But this does not mean you can eat anything during breakfast. It is best to consume whey protein and simple carbs first thing in the morning, try to keep the fat to a minimum. The great breakfast would be oatmeal, a protein drink, and some fruit.

3-Avoid cakes and candy

When it comes to losing weight, the two most dangerous words in the English dictionary consist of cakes and candy. The only time it is ok to consume a lot of sugar is before and after a workout, because most of the sugar will be delivered to your muscles rather than fat storage. It is always a good idea have fruits right after a workout because they are loaded with the good kind of carbs.

You need an Extreme fat Loss Diet if you are wanting to lose fat as fast as possible. To learn more about how you can lose fat just look at http://ExtremefatLossDiet.info

The Three Ways to Treat Acne

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Acne is nasty. However, it’s not a problem that cannot be tackled. There are lots of acne skin care products around. We can catalog acne skin care items into 3 broad categories:

A] Preventive or general acne skin care products; B] Over-the-counter, specialised acne skin care products; C] Prescription only acne skin care products.

The all-purpose acne skin care items are the ones that are used as an acne-prevention measure. These include cleansers, make-up removers and similar items that help prevent acne. In the real sense, these acne skin care items are those that should be part of your daily routine anyway. However, some of these are more orientated to work like a general acne skin care item.

These acne skin care products act against the reasons for acne e.g. limiting the production of sebum/oil and avoiding the clogging of skin pores. Basically, these acne skin care items prevent the oil from getting trapped in pores and hence hamper the growth of the bacteria that lead to acne. General acne skin care items also include exfoliation items like skin peels. These work by exfoliating dead skin cells, hence reducing the likelihood of pore-clogging and bacteria increase.

Then there are specialised acne skin care items that are available over-the-counter i.e. without the requirement of a prescription. These include products like vanishing creams which extract the extra oil from the skin. Most of these acne skin care products are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and so acne too). You should start with a product that has a lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin reacts to it.

Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also popular as acne skin care products. You might have to test a few, before you find the acne skin care product that is most effective for you. If nothing seems to work, you should get in touch with a dermatologist.

Prescription-only acne skin care products are the ones that are prescribed by a dermatologist. These include ointments that can be rubbed on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical medication. Dermatologists might also recommend a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules. However, never try to squeeze or do this by yourself, it can lead to the everlasting damage of your skin.

Your doctor could also prescribe a hormone-based treatment (since hormonal changes are also known to cause acne). Such acne skin care items are known to be very effective in some cases. So, with all those acne skin care items, combatting acne is really not all that arduous.

Acne Problems

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Acne is one of the most common skin problems afflicting mankind and it affects all people irrespective of age, caste, colour or gender. Acne is a tremendously embarrassing and troublesome problem, because it is so noticeable and unsightly. Acne can be defined as red eruptions on the skin, sometimes containing a white puss, causing discomfort and pain. The most common type of acne is called acne vulgaris or puberty spots.

Acne vulgaris can be defined as follows: … an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland) . Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits – [source: Wikipedia]. It is an upsetting affliction that we do not seem to have complete control over. However, there are different manners in which to treat acne: you can try medication from a skin specialist or you can try home or natural remedies.

Natural remedies are less time consuming, less costly and have no side effects. However, they do take a little more patience, because certain routines have to be followed rigorously in order to get rid of the problem once and for all. A natural remedy for acne is just as effective as medication. Here are a few home cures to eradicate your acne. To start with, your daily consumption of water ought to be a minimum of eight to ten glasses. This helps you to detoxify your body and kill the harmful bacteria that cause acne.

An over-balance of oily food also leads to acne, therefore fried, oily and spicy food should be religiously avoided. A near complete abstinence of fried and fatty food will have a notable, beneficial effect on any acne outbreak. Moreover, if you include more chromium and zinc in your diet, it will help to eradicate acne. There should be the correct combination of diet and hygiene.

A mixture of grated nutmeg with fresh milk regularly applied on the afflicted area also helps to cure acne. Cinnamon powder and honey is just as effective in curing acne. The cooled liquid from boiled Neem leaves applied to acne acts as a disinfectant. [The Neem Tree is a tall, usually evergreen East Indian tree (Azadirachta indica) widely cultivated in tropical Asia for its timber, resin, bitter bark, and aromatic seed oil, which is used medicinally and as an insecticide (source: 'Free Online Dictionary')].

The infected area should be washed with anti-acne soap at least three or four times a day. Make-up should be strictly avoided when one is suffering from acne. Make-up makes an acne condition worse. Acne should never be squeezed as it may cause infection or / and make it worse. Squeezing your acne could also lead to permanent scars on your skin, which results in your skin looking unsightly. Avoid letting your hair fall onto the acne-affected area too.

Your hair should be kept tied back to avoid touching the acne. Pillow covers should be washed on a daily basis to avoid the bacteria spreading. The regular washing of your skin should be observed to keep it free from germs. Apart from this, a healthy lifestyle should be followed with a proper, balanced diet, exercise and sleep. Remember if you take good care of yourself, illnesses will have trouble afflicting you, especially a small thing like as acne!
