Holy Days In Christianity

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Christmas – is the celebration of Jesus’ birthday. Although the precise date of his birth is unknown, December 25th was probably selected because it coincided with a pagan mid-winter festival. The ‘Twelve Days Of Christmas” mark the days between Christmas and Epiphany (January 6th), which was the day of the wise men’s visit.

Easter – is the most important day in the Christian calendar, because it celebrates Christ’s Resurrection, which gave / gives Christians the hope of salvation and eternal life. Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal (Spring) equinox, which is on 21st March.

Shrove Tuesday – (Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday) was originally a day of penance, but is now marked by merrymaking. It is the day before the commencement of Lent.

Ash Wednesday – is derived from the marking of a cross on the forehead of believers with the ashes from the burnt palms used on Palm Sunday.

Lent – 40 days of penance and fasting

Palm Sunday – the Sunday before Easter, celebrates the arrival of Jesus at Jerusalem, where palms were laid on the road before him.

Maundy (Holy) Thursday – the day of the Last supper.

Good Friday – is the day of Christ’s crucifixion.

Holy Saturday – is the day before the Resurrection.

The Annunciation – March 25th is celebrated by Catholics as the day that Archangel Gabriel told Mary about her imminent pregnancy.

Trinity Sunday – is celebrated by some denominations in honour of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. It was confirmed part of the holy calendar in 1334 by Pope John XII.

Corpus Christi – Catholics remembers the presence of the body of Christ on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday.

All Saints Day – this mainly Catholic remembrance is on November 1 and honours all Christian saints.

Advent – a religious season that starts on the Sunday nearest to November 30 and lasts until Christmas Day. It celebrates the birth of Jesus and anticipates his Second Coming. It was once a period of fasting, but now no longer.

Holy Days Of Obligation – are feast days in the Catholic calendar marked by attendance at mass and the avoidance of unnecessary work. There are six in the USA: Solemnity of Mary – January 1: Christ’s circumcision, ie his first shedding of blood Ascension – 40 days after Easter Assumption – August 15: Mary is accepted into Heaven All Saints’ Day – November 1 Mary’s Immaculate Conception – December 8 Christmas Day – December 25.

Kitchen Decorating Ideas

Friday, May 7th, 2010

It’s a Sunday morning and you’re sitting there waiting for your coffee machine to finish its various gurgles and noises so you can have that all important early morning cup of coffee. Idly, you glance around your kitchen and notice a spot of paint on the corner of the door. It had been there for years but you never really took any notice of it before.

You continue to allow your gaze to wander and your eye catches a patch of mildew seeping in under the sink, then you see the ugly brown colour your ceiling has become just above where the cooker is.

The paint is faintly off colour, and the lone wall-papered wall is beginning to look outdated and faded. You take a fortifying sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that some kitchen decorating is called for.

Where do you start though? And how soon can you get into it? Now that you’ve finally spotted all the little signs of decay that you had been quite successfully ignoring up until that day, you can’t wait to start modest kitchen decorating plans.

However, that is where the crunch comes. Just how modest do you want to keep your kitchen decorating plans? Can you get away with just slapping a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the trouble of stripping the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out what had caused that mildew stain.

Naturally enough, it all depends on you and your budget, but if you can spare the time, energy and money, you’ll probably do better, in the long run. to get rid of all your kitchen decorating problems at once. That would include stripping the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs that you might have, and perhaps even sanding down your wooden floors if you have those. If you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating however then you’ll also need that all important final coat of fresh paint to brighten up your kitchen.

You might also want to think about replacing those tatty old curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly old by now. So, go on and splash out on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re at it, you should think of buying a new stack of tea towels as well. It won’t hurt to go the whole hog while you can.

And when you’ve eventually finished, you will be able to sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has landed you with a far better kitchen than you had ever expected.

A feeling of contentment flows through you as you bring your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your labour.

Jobs in Interior Design

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Are you the kind of person who is always redoing your room or even your house? Do you find yourself happier when you’re doing this than when you’re doing any other kind of job? Then maybe you might want to look into a career change such as going for interior design jobs.

If you’re stuck in a rut of a job and want to go for something different, then this might be just what you’re looking for in your life. Working in interior design jobs can be an enjoyable and profitable way for you to spend your time, and if you play your cards correctly, then there could be quite a lot of benefit to you.

Before you run off and quit your present job though, I’d advise you to think about it very carefully. Remember that, although the market for interior design jobs is definitely there, most interior design jobs are for the self-employed and you will have to bid for each job, so if you do decide to get on the bandwagon, you might not actually get any jobs in the beginning.

Therefore, you should first make sure that interior designing is really for you. And if it is, then make sure that you have enough capital saved up for you to be able to live comfortably until your new career gets off the ground.

If this doesn’t sound quite so appealing to you now, you could always just keep doing your old job and continue with any interior design jobs that you get at the same time until you feel comfortable enough to choose between the two. It’s probably safe to assume that by that point, you would have made up your mind whether you wanted to continue doing interior design jobs or not.

Furthermore, you also have the choice of going to an interior design college or taking some interior design courses, on or off line, to increase your interior design knowledge. This is a really good way for you to put your toes in the water before you take too much risk. An additional bonus with either of these options is that they can be completed easily and shouldn’t present you with any real hardship.

Taking any of these courses will only enhance your natural abilities and bring to the fore any talent you have in the field of interior designing. This in turn makes it simpler for you to go in for more interior design jobs by giving you a boost in confidence and knowledge, so that you’re better prepared to face whatever comes along.

The hardest part will be taking that all important first step of coming out your nice safe job to go out into the unknown world of bidding for interior design jobs. However, for the person who’s got the interior design bug, there’s no better way to satisfy their interest than by trying for interior design jobs. You’ll find your energy levels and creativity blossoming like it never before.

Apocalyptic Dates Coming Soon

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Predicting the end of the world has almost certainly been going on since man began thinking, whenever that was. It is warned about in Revelations in the Bible, so that must be about 2,000 years ago.

Nonetheless, it is the predictions of Nostradamus that are the most well-known and most abundant. Some biographical accounts of Nostradamus’ life assert that he was terrified of being persecuted for heresy by the Inquisition, although neither prophecy nor astrology fell under their jurisdiction. He would have been in danger only if he had used magic to support his prophesies.

In fact, his contact with the Church as a seer and a physician were always very good. His short imprisonment at Marignane in late 1561 came about merely because he had published his 1562 Almanac without the prior consent of a bishop, contravening a recent royal decree.

Here then are a few of the prophesies of the end of the world and the destruction of mankind.

December 21st, 22nd or 23rd 2012 are all possible dates for the ending of the world according to the ancient Mayan Calendar.

2012 has been determined by some to be the first potential date for the passing by of Planet X (Wormwood) and the demise of the world, as mentioned in Revelations, although this is fervently debated by Biblical experts and astronomers alike.

2012 is also the year given by Nostradamus as the possible demise. He gave three possible years for the apocalypse: 1994 and 1998 so this is his last opportunity to be correct.

2010 is the year so says the Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn.

In 1143 St Malachy prophesied that there would be only another 112 more Popes. The current Pope Benedict is the 111th. He further predicted that the final Pope would be known as Peter of Rome, so we will have to wait and see for this one.

2017 is the year specified to the Sword of God Brotherhood by the Angel Gabriel.

November 13th 2026 is the date according to a 1960 edition of ‘Science’ magazine. The author alleged that this would be the day that the planet’s human population would ‘reach infinity’.

2033 is held by many to be the 2000th anniversary of the crucifixion of Christ and a possible date for his return, which would signal the end of our Earthly period.

4,500,000,000 AD is the approximate date at which the Sun is expected to explode and in so doing, destroy the inner solar system including our Earth. Nobody knows, but unless we destroy ourselves first, this latter date is probably the most accurate and scientific date for the destruction of the planet.

Patio Furniture

Friday, April 30th, 2010

If you have a lovely patio or deck or a beautiful garden, then you have to have good patio furniture in order to enjoy it. There is no finer end to a busy day than sitting outside on the patio with a drink and a newspaper or a book. I like to sit in the garden after the sun has waned a little, but before the mosquitoes come out for a few hours reading a book.

There are many different styles of patio furniture to choose from that range from classic to modern. There is also a full range of choice in that there are chairs, loungers, swinging sofas, tables, outdoor fridges, barbecue sets and patio heaters amongst other things. A full set need not cost more than $1,000, but you can start with a table and two chairs and build up your patio furniture set step by step.

The many options you have when looking for patio furniture are the designs and the matter it is made from. Most patio furniture stays outside all day and all night in any weather, so it important to get furniture that is well-made and weather-proof. All weather furniture is normally made from plastic-coated steel, wicker, massive wood or moulded plastic.

Whatever you choose, make sure that the guarantee makes your choice worth the money. For example, I mean, if the furniture costs $200, but has a 12 month guarantee, then you should be prepared to pay $4 a week for your investment and everything else is a bonus.

Another tip is to buy your patio furniture from a dependable manufacturer or a trustworthy retailer, unless it is massive timber furniture in which case you will want a trustworthy local craftsman. It depends where you live of course, but any patio furniture is going to have a hard time of it and it will remain outside sometimes no matter what your intentions are now.

Standard plastic patio furniture is pretty good and will stand up to all but the coldest of weather, which can make it become fragile. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can have the same effect on cheap plastic chairs. White is the usual colour, but there are others. Make sure that you buy something that will take your weight, especially if you are a bit on the heavy side. I have had legs of plastic chairs go on me, but luckily I was on grass both times. On concrete or near the edge of raised decking could be very dangerous.

Once you have selected your patio table, chairs and possibly loungers, there are one or two other things that I think are essential to allowing the full enjoyment of your patio deck. For example, if you want to use your outdoor furniture in the evening you may find it chilly or you may be troubled by insects.

This need not be a problem. You can get a patio heater for quite a reasonable price. A gas patio heater will keep up to eight people lovely and warm. To complete your patio furniture set, you may want a mosquito trap of some kind.

Decorating Ideas For A Wedding

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Yes! Yes, yes, and yes a thousand times more. That was the answer you gave two days ago when your boyfriend took you out to dinner and proposed. There was no second thought in your mind then and there isn’t any now either really. The only thing that you’re worried about though is the actual details of the wedding.

Your boyfriend, now your fiance of course, is very laid back and casual about it and said that anything you want was OK with him. He was certain that you would do a great job, just tell him if you wanted anything.

That’s all good and fine, and normally you would have relished the chance, in fact you did jump at the chance. But now you’re getting confused about what to do for your wedding decorating ideas and motifs are all blending as one into your brain and you still don’t know where to have the reception.

Of course, you could hold the reception in an up-scale hotel with the works, everything catered for and all the niggily little details looked after, but that seemed so impersonal, and you really want your wedding to be one that you will remember for the rest of your life. So what can you do now?

Well, first and foremost, just take a deep breath and relax. Working yourself up into a frenzy won’t do you any good. Next gather your bridesmaids and all willing and able people whom you trust together and have a council of war.

This is where you will decide on the details and get a fresh perspective and new ideas on your planning, and where most of all, you can have some fun with your wedding decorating ideas. You’d be just amazed at how many bright ideas a bunch of people can get if they’re working together on something like wedding decorating ideas with wedding cards being only a small part of it.

So you start with an idea, maybe to have the all of the cards handmade so that they become extra special to you as time passes. Someone else has the fantastic idea of getting a bunch of those little disposable cameras so that those who wanted to, would be able to take photos, and you’d end up with a great many more candid pictures than you otherwise would have had.

Yet another person suggests a great basis theme design. Your wedding decorating ideas are now flowing fast and furious as one person after another chimes in offering you all the help you need to get your wedding plans sorted out.

However, it is your mother who comes up with the best wedding decorating ideas of all and such like being the least of all her concerns! Maybe you’d like to get married and then have your reception at their place.

They could put up a marquee to cater for all the guests, and the house could be decorating to suit the occasion. And you say, ‘Yes’, again because there’s nothing you want more than to get married at home.

Cooking: Five Tips On Cooking Food

Monday, April 26th, 2010

There can not be many individuals who do not like their food, but the human race, being what it is, I expect that there are a few of them. However, for the remainder of us, cuisine is a font of daily enjoyment and, like drink, it is frequently used to denote a celebration. not only that, but various foodstuffs are used for the various meals or distinct celebrations.

Commemorative meals were undoubtedly planned around the seasonal foods available, but a number of foodstuffs were ferried enormous distances for the benefit of those who could pay for them. For instance, my father deemed it a great treat to get an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day 60 years back. How the times have changed! Very few kids would deem an orange a present, special or otherwise, any day of the year in our time.

Yet, the preservation of foodstuff is still a daily affair and subsequently, I have listed a few top guidelines on preserving food below, so that you will get the best from that which you have purchased or grown in your garden even a long while afterward.

Chicken Stuffed With Spoons: a great way of preparing chicken to be eaten at a cold buffet or in sandwiches, is to put as many spoons as possible into the cavity of the chicken (not silver or plated ones though). Then, place the chicken in a large saucepan or pot and bring the water to the boil slowly. Simmer for 10 minutes, cover and leave until the water is room temperature. The spoons will retain the heat and cook the chicken from the inside out. it will be one of the most succulent chickens you have ever eaten.

Roasted Crisp And Light: if you like crisp-skinned roasties, it is best to parboil them first, but that is only half the story. so, boil the potatoes for five minutes and drain thoroughly. Put the lid on the pan and shake it about violently. Bang it hard on the chopping block several times. The harder the better. Then put the parboiled potatoes in the baking tray with the meat or fowl to cook as you would normally.

Salad Soup: Do not throw away salad that has been soaked in salad dressing. Whisk it up in a food processor with a can of tomatoes of tinned soup. Add lots of garlic to taste and adjust the thickness to suit your taste. Chill it down and you will have one of the most delicious summer soups ever.

Curdling Cure: if your mayonnaise has curdled there is one sure fire way to bring it back to life. stir in a couple of tablespoons of Hellmann’s mayonnaise and your problem will be over.

Simply Scrumptious Topping: a really, quick, delicious and almost infinitely variable topping for a savory pie can be made in seconds. Choose the flavour you want from the crisp rack; puncture the bag to let our the air and then crush the contents in the gag. it really adds something to a pie. The same trick can be used on the bottom of a potato pie a Texan housewife told me.

Home Theater Set-Up And First Rate Speakers

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Home theaters are very popular in the West now for many reasons, but partly due to the recession. However, I predict that after the recession is over, home theaters will take off like a rocket. In my estimation, this is because, the slump has forced people to examine their spending, which usually means cutting back. Going out, eating out and movies are all in the front line of these cuts. However, the slump is upsetting and people have to get some enjoyment from somewhere.

In the medium to long term, it is cheaper to build a home theater for a family than take them to a proper movie theater every week. Taking a family of four to the movies costs $50-$100, whereas a modest home theater might cost $1,000. It does not take long to recoup those costs. And it saves you the hassle of travelling there and back, the noise and mobile phones during the film and high prices for candy and snacks.

OK, maybe people at the moment are buying cheap packages of home theaters, but one of the first things they will replace when they get a bit of money again will be the speakers, I bet. Evidently, you need a good quality, large screen, but after that, it is the sound and the bulwark to good sound is usually poor speakers.

The most important consideration in the design of your home theater is the dimensions of your room. If the room is small, you will not have need of so many speakers. Perhaps three speakers will be enough, if the room is small. However, if you only need three speakers and a sub-woofer, get good ones.

If you have a bigger room however, the basic three home theater speakers may not be enough. You may need to put up to six speakers and a sub-woofer around the room. The position of these speakers is up to you and can depend on the shape or and size of the room anyway, but typical layouts are:

3.1 system: one speaker to the left of the screen, one to the right and one below it. You can put the sub-woofer on top of the central speaker or at the back of the room. Try it and see.

5.1 system: as 3.1, but with two speakers at the back of the room too.

6.1 system: as 5.1, but with another speaker between the rear speakers, as in the front.

7.1 system: as 6.1, but with two speakers central rear, slightly away from each other. You can move the existing rear speakers a little to the sides too.

This set-up requires a lot of wires as you can envisage. Now, you could staple the wires to the skirting board, but you should only do that after you are dead sure that you have the speakers in the right positions. Or you could hang the speakers on the walls. However, although that sounds good for music, it does not always sound all right for a movie.

The best option is wireless speakers. Wireless speakers can be moved around to suit the number of people watching the film or moved out for cleaning or redecorating purposes. You do not want to bash your nice, new, expensive speakers with the vacuum cleaner, do you?

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with wireless home theater systems. If you are interested in a Home Movie Theatre, please click through to our site now.

Xbox And The Home Theater

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

There are several video game systems on the market, but if you are looking for a game console that also can be utilized for home theater entertainment, then the right choice has to be the Xbox game console. Very often, it is the case that children will want to play games in the daytime on holidays and before bed during the week, whereas parents will want to watch films at night before going to bed. Therefore, the two age groups need not clash often with their use of the home theater console.

Therefore, if you can get a device that fulfills both the roles of playing games and playing films, you can save some money. The Xbox game console fits this role, because the Xbox is one of the new generation of video game boxes that can also play films on DVD or whatever disk format.

The Xbox is actually a very hi-tech piece of equipment, something that non-game players might not have realized. It fits easily into a home theater system because it has wide screen video capability, HDTV screen resolutions and Dolby Digital and DTS sound support, making it a perfect home theater set-up component.

The Xbox is also a good looking piece of equipment, which will match any existing black home theater equipment you may already own. It does not look like just a plastic toy. It was invented by Microsoft and has a powerful, stylish look. The Xbox’s case is black with an X on it and a green Xbox logo similar to a jewel.

The Xbox is basically a cut-down computer as it has many components of a personal computer like an Intel processor, NVidia graphic chips and an internal hard drive among others. PC’s are general purpose tools, whereas the Xbox is designed for playing DVD’s in more ways than one. In other words, it is a dedicated computer. It is dedicated to the task of playing DVD’s and it does it very well.

However, it also has four controller sockets in the front of the box for connections and it has an Ethernet socket for multi player games that allows other gamers on the Internet to take part in the game. The Xbox console includes as standard: the controllers with a 9 ft cable, a standard AV cable, and an AC power cord. It also comes with a DVD loading tray and a multi signal audio-video connector for easy connection to televisions and other home theater systems.

The Xbox will transform the way you think about games and how you play them, because it is so committed to making interactive games a reality and as exciting as possible. Games are written especially for it such as the Dead or Alive series and the Halo series too.

However, their are sports games to be had too such as football and Formula 1 motor car racing. The graphics, sound and overall reality are remarkable. Finally, for parents who are worried about what their kids are watching, playing or doing, there are parental controls built into the Xbox.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with Home Theater Screens. If you are interested in a Home Movie Theatre, please click through to our site.

Fabric Shower Curtains

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

So, one day, fabric shower curtains went the way of the dodo and glass shower doors became all the rage. But, like most fads, common sense resurfaced and the fashions that once were, have come back as they do. You’ll now find that fabric shower curtains are fashionable once again and are easily available from most stylish home decor stores.

However, don’t dump your old glass doors just yet either. The convenience and sophisticated look of the glass doors seem to be firmly established in some quarters. True blue die-hards of the glass doors will swear by these and will even sometimes be ready to lay down their reputations for them.

You’ll find, when discussing fabric shower curtains, that people are laid back and will smile when asked about their preferences. Naturally, they’ll stick by their fabric shower curtains but they also admit to seeing the advantages of glass doors as well. No dripping from the bottom of the curtain as you take a shower, no constantly damp curtain folds that need to be separated out each morning in order to dry and air out.

The biggest convenience of all, is the easy cleaning afforded by glass shower doors. However, as the proponents of fabric shower curtains will also say to you, glass doors have their disadvantages as well, the biggest of which being that if you allow the cleaning of the doors to go for even one week, dark stains will begin to form along the sides where they’re fixed to the wall and some of these seem to have great determination.

And if you don’t perform a good regular cleaning of the glass shower doors, your otherwise nice clean bathroom will begin to look rather grubby. The reason though why fabric shower curtains are an all out favourite of many people in the know, is for just one reason and one reason only. This is also what leads these people to have a contented smile on their faces even after they’ve just spent the last half hour cleaning their bathroom. Fabric shower curtains are disposable and therefore can be changed easily.

Yes, that’s the one whopping big reason why fabric shower curtains are still a firm favourite of a lot of people. Have you ever tried replacing your glass doors on a regular basis? It just won’t happen and its doubtful if it will ever happen within three years, unless that is you take a hammer to it.

So, now you know the reason for that mysterious grin and why fabric shower curtains never really went out of fashion. Convenience, more convenience and still more convenience. So if you’re thinking of swapping from your glass shower doors to the more convenient fabric shower curtains don’t be put off by the initial job that awaits you.

Once you remove those doors, your life is bound to become easier, and if it’s not, just exchange one set of fabric shower curtains for new ones. If nothing else it’ll make you feel better!
