There is no uncertainty that astronomy is the oldest science and there is also no doubt that astronomy was being studied by everyone, not only the wise men, thousands and thousands of years ago.

We do not know exactly why they did it, but we can deduce that early man noticed a correlation between the weather and the stars, which were themselves not fully understood, of course.

Early man, probably even as far back as Neanderthal man, noticed the relationship between the weather and herd movements and crop growth, or at least fruit and nuts on local trees, if they did not have planted crops.

This means that people could see a connection between the stars and food availability. This relationship was probably ritualized into some sort of religion like early Wicca. Therefore, the stars became a very important part of the lives of every single person and it is likely that astrology and astronomy were widely intermixed by the average person.

However, there were also people who did not only use the stars as some enormous celestial clock and who tried to make sense of the whole shebang. I am going to narrate below, eight of the most important dates or years in the history of astronomy before Christ walked on the Earth. Never forget that they had nothing but an abacus to do there calculations and no telescopes, which came about two thousand years later.

585 BC: Thales of Miletus (c. 625- c. 547), a Greek, predicted a solar eclipse in Asia Minor purely on the basis of his observations and calculations. It was not a lucky guess!

c. 400 BC: the astronomer Oenopedes (5th. century). also a Greek, announces that the Earth is tilted on its axis with respect to the Sun.

352 BC: the Chinese report what they called a ‘guest star’, a supernova, which was the earliest reported sighting.

340 BC: The astronomer, Kidinnu (b. Babylon c. 379 BC) discovers the precession of the Equinoxes, ie the apparent change in the position of the stars caused by the Earth’s wobbling on its axis.

c. 300 BC: a ‘committee’ of Chinese astronomers compile star maps of the visible universe.

c. 240 BC: Chinese astronomers observe and make notes about Halley’s Comet. Also Eratosthenes of Cyrene (c. 276 – c.194 BC), a Greek, correctly calculate the Earth’s dimensions.

165 BC: Chinese astronomers notice sunspots for the first time.

c. 130 BC: the astronomer Hipparchus of Nicea (b. 147 BC), a Greek, correctly calculates the distance to the Earth’s Moon and also rediscovers the precession of the Equinoxes.

You will see from the dates above that obviously not everyone let nature and the stars govern their lives, as the common farmer or hunter did. Some men actually took pen to paper, but before pen and paper even existed, and tried to work out ‘why these manifestations occurred?’.

These individuals must have been remarkable men to have worked these measurements out by calculation, observation by the naked eye and rationalization alone.

Tennis psychology is nothing more than understanding the make-up of your opponent's mind and gauging the effect of your own game on his/her mental viewpoint and also understanding the psychological effects resulting from the different external causes on your own mind.

Tennis psychology is the same as understanding the make-up of your opponent’s mind and gauging the effect of your own game on his/her head and also understanding the psychological effects resulting from the different external causes on your own mind.

However, it is true that you cannot be a successful psychologist of others without first understanding your own mental processes. Therefore, you must study the effect on yourself of the same thing happening under different circumstances. This is because people react differently in different moods and under different circumstances.

You must understand the effect on your game of the resulting irritation, pleasure, confusion, or whatever other form your reaction is. Does it increase your efficiency? If so, go for it, but never give it to your opponent. Does it rob you of concentration? If so, either remove the cause, or if that is not possible, try to ignore it.

Once you have accurately measured your own reaction to conditions, observe your opponents in order to decide their characters. Like temperaments react similarly, and you may judge men of your own sort by yourself. Other characters you must seek to compare with people whose reactions you know.

Someone who can control his/her own mental processes runs an excellent chance of reading those of another for the mind works along definite lines of thought and can be studied. One can only control one’s own mental processes after carefully examining them.

A steady, phlegmatic baseline player is rarely a keen thinker. If he was he would not stay on the baseline. The physical appearance of a player is usually a pretty clear indication of his/her sort of mind. The stolid, easy-going player, who usually advocates the baseline game, does so because he hates to stir up his/her torpid mind to work out a safe strategy of reaching the net.

Then there is the other type of baseline player, who would rather remain on the back of the court while directing an attack intending to disrupt up your game. He is a much more dangerous player, and a deep, keen thinking antagonist. He achieves his/her results by mixing up his/her length and direction and worrying you with the variance of his/her game. He is a good psychologist.

The first type of player mentioned above simply hits the ball with little idea of what he is actually doing, while the latter always has a definite strategy and sticks to it.

There is a commonly held belief that golf is the pastime-cum-sport of well-off entrepreneurs and businessmen. It is also perceived as being an elite sport and not easily accessible by ordinary blue collared employees. However, this is not really true as modernization and commercialization have brought these so-called exclusive sports into the realm of ordinary workers.

This is because there is no necessity to buy sophisticated equipment to have a game, so, unlike big game fishing and polo which need very costly resources like a boat or a horse respectively, golfers only need a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable. With this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and would-be golfers can be easily dreamed up.

Making personalized retirement gifts for golfers is quite an easy task as you can easily personalize your golfing equipment with items such as home made golf club pouches, and caddy covers and ball cleaners. These can be knitted or made using any handicraft requiring other materials.

You could think about golfing fashion by concentrating on the attire worn by golfers. You could even end up starting a new trend in golfing clothing by the using your imagination regarding the design of the apparel for your retiree.

The most easiest method of getting a retirement gift for golfers is to go to the local sports shop and get your retiree something they sell there. It may sound a little impersonal, but then this may prove really useful, if the retiree is still a novice golfer. Maybe, you could buy a golfing book, a subscription to a golfing magazine or a box of personalized golf balls.

However, you could find out what your retiree golfer still needs, and perhaps also use your imagination to think about in what ways you can enhance the golfing equipment he may already have.

Professionally made golfing equipment is always a safe bet. If you want to make your retiree feel great, get him or her a famous-name set of golf clubs, thereby making him feel like a professional.

You could even go to a joke shop and ask if they have any joke items for the golfer there. They probably do, since golf is such a popular sport.

The gag gifts should be chosen quite carefully as it could be a sensitive matter for the retiree, especially those who are still novice players. Gags as gifts in relation to golfing might be taken the wrong way and hinder their progress if they are upset by the idea emphasized by the gag or joke given to them.

As for veteran players who are already well adapted to the game, the gift of a good gag on their retirement day would be quite funny as they would already see golfing not only as a way to relieve stress, but also to actually just have some fun.

Retirement gifts for golfers are just a simple way to make your golfer friend enjoy life after his career is over.

Going to the movies is a very popular recreational pastime especially for those young professionals conducting very running corporate affairs. However, for those who cannot afford to waste time travelling to and from movie theaters, the solution to this recreational dilemma might be just inside their own house.

You could recreate the visual and sound systems of the movie theaters with your very own personal custom home theater system. The best custom home theater installation certainly can include high quality components that are capable of recreating the entire movie theater experience without having to drive from your dwelling to the movie theater wasting time and effort queuing in heavy traffic. This modern technology can give you the relaxation and experience that full-sized movie theaters provide.

The basic components, such as a big screen and speakers with clear and flicker free images from a high quality DVD, can easily provide an almost-authentic movie theater experience. Home theater experts recommend that before you decide on the final set-up and equipment for your custom home theater system, the size of the location must be the first consideration.

Therefore, if you have a small sized room for your home theater system, a television set may be best placed in the center of one wall and three loudspeakers, placed on the left, right and center, might be enough to provide the surround sound you want from a custom movie theater. However, if you have a bigger room, a home theater projector might be the best option for providing that big screen experience.

Home theater projector screens can recreate that authentic movie theater experience. If you are going to use quite a big room for your home theater system, you could add more speakers around the room in combination with your home theater projector and home theater projector screen. Another useful tip is that a sub-woofer could also help to provide the best surround sound to enable you to create the authentic sound of a movie theater in your very own living room.

There are various designs and models of home theater projector you could choose from. You will have to become acquainted with the qualities of each one, before you decide which one to purchase. It may also be necessary for you to enlist the services of a home theater expert in order to get the home theater package that will give you the best entertainment value. This will mean not having to spend an unnecessary amount of time and money on your home theater system and home theater projector.

It is so easy to buy equipment with an unnecessarily large capacity for your home theater, especially if you do not know what the possible choices are and the various requirements that your home theater may have due to its dimensions. The size of your home theater projector screen should be a function of the size of your room and the components of your custom home theater. For example, from where you plan to sit to the screen should be between two and five times the diameter of the screen. So, looking at it from the other perspective, if you are going to sit 10 feet (120 inches) from the screen, then the screen should be 24-60 inches, but it is very subjective and depends on the viewers eyesight.

Your home theater designer could easily also suggest options that may not require a television set for your home theater. How is this so? The reason for this is the technological innovations provided by computers and home theater projectors. Home theater projectors like InFocus screenplay models can be used in conjunction with a computer in a small room set-up. Home theater projectors are also lightweight and may be transported easily. For this reason, a projector is very useful for use in custom home theaters and business presentations.

Home theater projectors and home theater projector screens can help provide an authentic cinematic experience. This kind of set-up is extremely handy for business presentations and that is why it is becoming ever more popular. The combination of your custom home and custom office theater systems is a new phenomenon, which only a couple of smart consumers have dreamt up.

However, I am sure that being aware of all these options: ie, that a basic television set, three speakers and a DVD player can be perfectly adequate for people who only want a basic home theater, you may decide that you do not really need a home theater projector, especially if the room for your custom home theater system is not very large.

Enjoy a cinematic experience right in your very own home by thinking about your options intelligently. Then you can enjoy the relaxation a movie theater gives you without having to put up with boring traffic jams on the way to and from the movie theater.

Here you are then, standing in your new house! Its a bit of a mess though since the vendor was in a rush to sell and had been in the middle of redecorating. Still, you don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the ideal chance to do your new house up just the way you want it.

However, now you need to decide where everything goes and what colours will suit which rooms, but you don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly look through your new keys and wander through your new house. The moment you step in through a door ideas assail you. That stylish standard lamp you bought a while ago would look great over there, and you’re pretty sure that your existing couch set will fit in that other room. And you know that a mahogany table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really don’t have much of a clue about are wall painting ideas.

You don’t want to just splash on a coat of neutral coloured paint and be done with it. What you want is a masterpiece, something that you can look on with pride every time you see it. Naturally, you should be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too domineering.

But where can you get some decent wall painting ideas from, and how can you go about getting the wall painting done? There are a few ways that you could go about it. The easiest being if you have an artistic streak in you, then you could always get your wall painting ideas out of your head, so to speak and paint the walls as you like. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t too artistic and we are hesitant to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without supervision. In this scenario then, you will need some help.

You could begin by hiring a professional interior designer to help you to decide what would look suit your home or you could sit down and watch some DIY TV programs, in which they show some pretty good ideas on what to do when re-decorating a house and will even give you some stylish wall painting ideas.

If neither of these is a viable option for you though, you could just settle for going down to your local DIY store with a few fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and enlist their help on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You may come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last idea, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my ‘personalized’ house, because it reflects who I am just perfectly.

Have you ever thought about setting up a wedding car company? Although it can be demanding, because you do not want to let anybody down on their big day, it is also fascinating and exciting.

Have you ever thought about setting up a wedding car company? Although it can be demanding, because you do not want to let anybody down on their big day, it is also fascinating and exciting.

Some of the benefits are that you get to own good-looking vehicles – maybe a Rolls Royce or a Bentley and they are tax-deductible; you meet new people under happy circumstances and you are in the position to help them have a wonderful wedding day.

It is a very demanding industry, because you always have to bear in mind the desires of your clients and think about how you can realize and expand their’ wishes. That is difficult enough, but you also have to stay competitive. I hope that the following tips will be helpful.

1] Take care of the conditions under which you keep your vehicles. If you can afford to garage them, they will not collect dust and bird droppings so the paintwork will look better for longer. Do not have a gravel drive, because of possible scratching to the coachwork of the cars.

2] Get one or two really lovely cars. You will need to do a bit of research to find out what couples in your area like, but as a rule of thumb a Rolls Royce or a Bentley are sure bets. Or maybe a stretch limousine. Old vehicles go down well too. Build up your fleet of cars step by step but increasingly. Offer your clients as much choice as you can realistically afford to do.

Many wedding couples will not only require the wedding car, but also cars for the guests. Many of them want limousines or old cars for their wedding day. But a lot of other vehicles are required for the guests. Be flexible and agree to decorate the cars according to the couple’s wishes with flowers and ribbons.

2] Employ good, compassionate personnel. A fully trained chauffeur is a necessity, but a military style driver can add to your firm’s image.

3] It is a good idea to offer different packages or elements that a couple can use to build a package. So, you could offer transportation from the bride’s house to the church as one element. From the church to the restaurant as another element and from there to the chosen hotel, the airport or the railway station, as another element.

4] Make certain that your clients know exactly how long they have exclusive use of the vehicles for. This is useful for them, so that they know exactly how long they have to take photos, eat or chat.

Transport plays a huge and vital part in any wedding day celebrations. In fact, poorly timed or scruffy transportation can ruin a wedding day. If you let that happen, your firm’s standing will suffer badly, especially in a town or village. You will need a high sense of responsibility; reliable, well-trained, sympathetic staff and high quality vehicles that look the part. White wedding cars are popular, but other colours are acceptable, especially for the guests.

A home theater takes a sizable investment of money, thought and installation, especially if you have a high quality home theater. Therefore, it is a shame that so may people just connect all the pieces in a room without giving any thought to what other things they should be doing to improve it. Unless you hire a professional consultant, you might not achieve the full potential of your home cinema system. However, it is not necessary to hire an adviser, if you just pay attention to a few common mistakes made by a lot of home cinema owners

The lighting in any cinema is very important, as I am sure you already know. Why is it then that many people do not treat it as important in their own home cinema? You never see external light – sun light – in a professional movie theater and you should not want any in yours either. Hang heavy curtains over every window in the room and let them extend beyond the window by a good margin.

Heavy curtains will not only keep external light out, but they will also dampen street noise, something else you never hear in a real movie theater. If you have neighbours close by, it will also help to prevent them from being disturbed by your loud films or music.

Do not try to save money by buying poor quality speakers. Do not mix and try to match speakers either, unless you are sure you know what you are doing. If you need five speakers and a sub-woofer, but can only afford three and the sub-woofer, buy speakers from a well-known brand that you know you can get hold of again.

Do not buy end of line speakers, as you will find upgrading hard. The best approach for the novice is to get a 5.1 surround sound set of speakers. Then, if at some point in the future you want to upgrade, you can quite easily, either by buying more or exchanging the lot in one go. One thing is for certain, a lot of the magic of going to the theater these days lies in the surround sound and you need to reproduce it at home.

It is not rocket science to put a home theater together whether it comes in kit form or not. However, if you do not feel comfortable setting it up, you would be better off having it done for you. Clearly, it is up to you how you go about this, but you could ask a relative or friend or neighbour or hire someone from the shop where you got it. My speculation is though that any reasonably competent eighteen year old has already seen one set up before and can do it for you.

Your movie theater, if it came in a kit, will or should have thorough instructions for you to follow. Please read the handbook before you start plugging things into each other. Read the manual and inspect the parts until you are well acquainted with the installation procedure and the recommended positioning of the equipment.

Make sure that the voltage is adjusted appropriately before you plug it into the mains. Most equipment is made abroad for sale to many countries, so they usually have some sort of selector for the voltage. Get it wrong and you could blow a part of the equipment, probably the amplifier, the DVD player or the screen. that could mean replacement of the module or poor reproduction of sound or picture.

It is not hard to get the installation of your home theater right, but you do have to pay some attention to detail, if you want to get the best out of it.

It is never easy asking for help, but in golf, it is almost a must-do. Unfortunately, we often ask our buddies and partners, when, in reality we should take a few lessons with a professional, usually called the Club Pro.

We may possibly think that a Pro would be too critical, but in fact, they are honest, positive and usually very helpful.

Lessons at the local golf course aren’t as expensive as you might think and they are worth it because your game will improve more rapidly and cause you less frustration, making the game much more enjoyable for you.

It is of utmost importance to be absolutely honest about your game. The Pro will ask you what you want to learn: driving, chipping, putting or whatever you feel you need help with.

Listen carefully and follow the Pro’s instructions. You may have doubts if the Pro changes your stance, your grip or your swing, but really, the Pro does know best.

Don’t hesitate to ask the Pro golfer any questions. Don’t worry about whether your question or concern may sound stupid – they’ve heard it all before and will not make you feel like a fool for asking. If you don’t understand, tell him/her that you do not understand. You should never walk away from a lesson with unanswered questions.

For example, a strategy might be to concentrate on one thing during a lesson, or on several. You might start with a lesson on driving; get the right grip, the right stance, the right swing, the right follow-through in one lesson, and then practice it for a few weeks until you feel that you’ve got it right. Next time, you might want to work on your short game, or putting.

You’ve invested in the golfing equipment and it isn’t cheap, is it? So, it doesn’t make sense not to learn how to use it to it’s best advantage thereby improving your game and abilities, does it?

There can not be many people who do not like food, but the human race, being what it is, I suppose there are a few. For the rest of us, food is a source of daily pleasure and, like drink, it is often used to mark a celebration. not only that, but different foodstuffs are used for the different meals or distinct occasions.

Celebratory meals were unquestionably planned around the seasonal foods available, but some foods were transported great distances for the benefit of those who could afford them. For instance, my Dad thought it was a great treat to get an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day 60 years ago. How times have altered, very few children would think an orange a present, special or otherwise, any day of the year nowadays.

Nonetheless, the storage of food is still a daily concern and so, I have listed a few top tips on storing food hereunder, so that you will get the best from what you have bought or grown long afterward.

The Smells Of Summer: the scent of fresh garden herbs are one of the pleasures of Summer. You can conserve many of these herbs in the following way. Take a suitably sized glass bottle and cram your favourite herb into it until you can get not get even one more leaf in. Then fill it to the brim with your favourite oil olive oil (salad oil, not cooking oil). Leave it in the strong sunlight for two days if you are using basil or two weeks for tarragon. Allow the water to part from the oil and decant the oil off into another bottle. Just one or two drops of this oil on a salad or spaghetti will bring back Summer memories.

Bin Ends: sometimes, after a party for example, you may wake up to several small amounts of wine in different bottles. Of course, you can pour like wines into each other. When you are done, pour a teaspoon of olive oil into each bottle. This will create an air proof layer over the wine thereby preserving the wine for another week or two to go together with your favourite dinners – in the cooking process naturally.

Storing Garlic: cloves of peeled garlic will keep for months if you stuff them into a screw-topped jar and cover them with olive oil. As you use the garlic, top up with more olive oil. The oil will absorb some of the flavour of the garlic and make a fabulous (basis for a) salad dressing. If you have used tinned garlic, the rest can be preserved in the same way, but you should rinse and dry them first.

Saving Tomato Paste: if you suspect that you will not be able to use up the left over half a tin or tube of tomato paste soon, you can put it into the ice cube tray and freeze it into blocks until you are ready to use it.

Parsley Crumble: keep bunches of parsley in the deep freeze. Then, when you need it, you can just crumple the head of the bunch in your hand directly over the pan or plate where you require it and put it back in the freezer. The stalks can be used in the stock pot. in fact, this technique works for all herbs.
